I purchased a dragon fish about two months ago. It was of the Walmart variety. If anyone has purchased such a fish he/she would surely agree that it was a good purchase, as the dragon fish is a personable and fun fish to watch. Recently i noticed my dragon fish has a huge bulging on it's left side, forcing it to bend to such an extent that he is almost a 45Degree angle! It has begun to look painful and i feel bad for the poor fish. Also, a red dot on is belly between the head and vent is concerning. All this has happened within the timeframe of a few days! I have a gravel bottom and i realize that is not ideal however i will be getting sand for him as soon as i know that he might survive the ordeal. Has anyone shared this experience with their own fish and did it turn out well?
Also, i have searched the internet but am hard pressed to find someone who can describe the same thing happening to them. The red spot coupled with this spine twisting bloat seems to be an oddity, at lease together. Making for a very sick fish.
Yes, it is a brackish tank*

Do you have salt in the tank?

These fish prefer a brackish environment.

Due to their large mouth, people assume they are aggressive and will eat small fish.

In fact, they prefer very small food and behave as a filter feeder. Think of the baleen whale... the biggest mammal in the world eats the smallest of food.

With their beady little eyes, they are not good hunters. It is best to target feed them small micron food such as baby brine shrimp.

Wal-Mart is not known for knowledgeably selling fish.

Get him fed properly, add some salt to his tank slowly, if you can, and read more about him.

Search for velvet goby or dragon goby for accurate information.

FINALY someone has the same problem. Sadly it's too late for my fish (he died literally 10 minutes ago). I've been on the Internet all day putting in various keywords just seeing if anyone could help. My fish got the weird bloat on one side too. He also would get all bent up. But mine started doing this gasping looking thing and kinda turned pink there in his last hours. Oh and he had a red dot on his belly but he also had a spot where.....it almost looked like his stomach was splitting open? I don't know if that's what it was actually doing but that's what it looked like....I just want to know what happened to him.
