I had an issue with the drive disappearing and I fixed that. The registry was also messed up saying it wasn't a recordable device. Fixed that, but the programs I'm using to burn are still saying there is no recordable device. When no disk is inserted, it states it is a DVD-RW drive. I put a blank DVD in and it says its a CD Drive.
I am running Windows XP Version 2002 Service Pack 3.
