dvd/tv problem wny does it do this?

Going to have to say my 8yr old tv is "old"...it doesn't have audio/vidoe hook up in the back...no plug ins at all...i am now running my DVD player through my VCR...the problem is that it fades in and out (the colors/darkness)...i have bought and used the RF modulator unit...and it didn't make any difference...altho i did buy the cheap version...however, some movies do not fade at all....AND awhile ago i was using a VCR/DVD combo and i had no problems w/ the darkness at all...any ideas on why or how i can fix it?? Thanks in advance for your help!
 
best bet is 1 of 2 things. get a new t.v. or go to a local radio shack or best buy for your conversion kits. most rf modulator units may look to seem to help as to they cause more problems. check & recheck your connections on your unit and make sure you have the proper load cables to carry the load
