Hi, i am a 16 year old boy who runs cross country and track for my team in highschool, and i am really worried about the well being of my lungs. recently, i went running at a nearby community college track, which i go to every day about. For the past week, they have been doing some construction in the parking lot, and are using tar/asphalt to resurface the parking lot.( The track is close enough to the parking lot where they use the asphalt that i can faintly smell it.) So after running, i go home, take a shower, and go to sleep. then when i woke up the next morning, i had to really strain to clean my through, like there was something trapped in my chest that wouldn't come out. Then for the rest of the day i had to do the same thing, almost constantly clearing my throat, as if something were clogging up my lungs. I didn't even go outside that day, but still my lungs/chest felt horrible. At this point, i am extremely worried that by running near the construction zone where there was street tar, my lungs have been destroyed by the street tar. So now i have a few questions.
1. Are my lungs permanently damaged? Did the tar from the construction site harm me?
2. If my lungs are not permanently damage, ow long will it take for them to heal?
3. Is there anything i can do to speed up the recovery process?
