Every now and again,my Citroen C5 petrol 2.0 litre will throw up a message on the inboard computer saying "ENGINE ANTI POLLUTION SYSTEM FAULTY".The car then goes into "limp" mode, refusing to accelerate, and giving around 1,000 rpm.If I turn the engine off then back on after about 20 seconds, it clears.Until next time it happens. The garage mechanic who has had the car for 2 weeks said that he has had the fuel tank checked, and the filters that are in the tank, and all is clear. The analyser throws up no faults. However, the mechanic said that he "thinks" it is a unit of some sort that regulated the variable timing of the valves. It is priced at £370.00.If it is replaced, and the same fault happens again, then I have wasted £370.00,just like I wasted £157.00 just over 2 weeks ago when the mechanic said the fault was down to the accelerator switch, but proved to be not so..............Has anyone come across this fault, and what was the problem, and how much does it cost to get repaired?
The mechanic said the unit has seized up and not working which leads him to believe that this is causing the error to appear.
