Okay, here's another ethical question... it's kind of like a puzzle. Find at exactly which spot this process becomes unethical and explain why. (Please don't just answer, "it's copyright violation," and leave it at that... I really want people to think about this!)
1. J tapes a tv show off his tv onto a VHS tape (for his own personal use).
2. J hooks up his VCR (or cable box) to the USB port in his computer and saves the file (for his own personal use).
3. J creates a DVD out of the file (for his own personal use).
4. J is missing a season, so he downloads that season off a bittorrent website (via p2p).
5. To return the favor, J uploads the season he has on his computer for others to watch.
I really want to know -- I'm not looking for a particular answer. At what point does this become illegal/unethical and WHY?
(Another way to look at the question: if I own a movie on VHS tape, and if it is okay to put it on a DVD, why is it illegal/unethical to download it?
