For someone who made a name for herself in the generally tepid (though certainly bitchy) bridal industry, it seems like designer Vera Wang can't be mentioned without stirring up controversy. And while Wang's bridal line is universally recognized as the definitive in chic, understated wedding-wear, her eponymous ready-to-wear line is universally recognized as anything but. In fact, her regular-woman looks often seem (to steal a phrase we picked up from our favorite fashion magazine editor-in-chief) 10% over-designed, a problem echoed in her latest collection, Resort 2008. Don't get us wrong -- there are some really beautiful standout pieces in this collection: The long dresses are modern, both preserving and perverting the association of length with formality and making dressing up seem as easy as dressing down. But some of the other looks seem slightly off, with a dated color palette and silhouettes that are fashion forward... from two seasons ago. It's all a little more Forever 21 than Barneys New York, in our opinion, but judge for yourself, after the jump.
