First ever bikini wax - vacation in 2 wks?

I'm going to Mexico in about 16 days. I'd like to get a bikini wax, however I've never gotten one before. I know it will be painful, but what I'm concerned about is irritation or bumps or bruising. I don't bruise that easily but when I got my eyebrows threaded for the first time, I had a few irritation bumps over the one eyebrow.

Any recommendations regarding a timeline between this bikini wax and my trip?
