I need a little help with my homework. My homework says, "Read over the following passage and then explain its significance to the development of Holden's character and the greater themes of the novel. Be sure to include other specific citations from the novel to support your ideas."
Here's the passage:
"Certain things they should stay the way they are. You ought to be able to stick them in one of those big glass cases and leave them alone." (122)
I need some help coming up with ideas.. I don't really understand what to do. So far I've written about Holden wanting to be alone in the glass case because then he doesn't have to deal with all the "phonys" in the world, even though he himself is a very lonely person. I was thinking about talking about how he wishes Allie were still alive, and how Jane should keep her innocence, but I can't think of any other examples.
Help? XD.
