...100 AD era? I heard from a friend that the reason not too many people wrote about Jesus around his time is that not much was written at all during that time in Rome. He said that if you piled up the writings then it would equal to about 2 full shelves on a bookcase.

Sources would be appreciated.

A lot actually. There were more than that out of the Dead Sea Scrolls alone....so your friend is full of crap.

There was a very active Library of Alexandria during that time. A lot more would have survived if religious freaks hadn't burned it.

The Romans in particular were known for extensive record keeping and libraries at the time actually. I don't have a source right off, its pretty much common knowledge.

Your friend was wrong. The Romans were very meticulous record keepers. There's plenty of records from that era, even records so mundane as tax collection lists.

Library of Alexandria (300 bc+)
"King Ptolemy II Philadelphus (309–246 BC) is said to have set 500,000 scrolls as an objective for the library.[11] Mark Antony supposedly gave Cleopatra over 200,000 scrolls (taken from the great Library of Pergamum) for the library as a wedding gift""

There were hundreds of thousands of books written and stored around that time from people as smart or smarter than us.

Jesus as a god savior is a myth that was co-opted from the Roman religion of Mithra.
