ask Don't tell? I don't have any problem if someone wants to be gay and i support gay marriage but i don't know, i just don't want to have to spend my career next to a gay.

I guess i wouldn't mind too much if the man was gay but nothing like the stereotypical gay because i wouldn't support that either.

I say these things because i know this gay guy that is just the stereotype and i would not be able to handle serving with him for x amount of years.

Please no "Obama is a socialist Nazi" answers.
That's what i'm saying, i like the DODT policy because i don't need to know every single person is gay.

No one needs to go around shouting their sexual orientation.

Besides, what about all the religious people of the military, should they be forced to subject themselves to what they see as a sin so that a gay can serve in the military?
Oh and for worldwide, maybe i am a hypocrite in your eyes because i believe gays should have rights to marriage but i don't want them around me. I don't see what's so wrong with that.

And i'm saying, i CANNOT stand a flamboyant gay but i can deal with a gay that likes everything the average man does, minus women obviously.
Dances with Cats; that's your best argument?

I could list literally thousands of men who have been war heroes and aren't gay.

It's not just me but why should the religious people of the military (which is a vast majority) be subjected to such a sin?

How come no one is thinking of military members during this, all they want to talk about is hurting a small minorities feelings.

Let them get married so they won't fuck around with the military.

please tell me how someone "wants to be gay".......... and you say you "don't have a problem" and yet in all your other sentences you're bashing gay people......

really??? hypocrite much???

be a man. you both serve your county. when you're in the battlefield and he's the only one left alive who could save you and you told him you hate gays, give me one good reason why he shouldn't leave you there to die? have a little more respect for yourself

Hello,

Well, I suppose that we dould get into all of the psychobabble or political bull hockey, but I don't like to...Here's the deal, I was enlisted for 2 years and I'm currently working on getting my commission. I love the Army and the life it provides. From my standpoint, it's not a big deal. There are gays in our military now that people know about-they just don't flaunt it. The don't ask don't tell policy is an easy out for a lot of people. All you have to do is say, "I'm gay," and you get an honorable discharge. If gays are already serving, and people already know that they're gay and not telling (for the sake of being a blue falcon), the policy is useless already. It might change things a little, but not a whole lot...

alexander the great, ernst roehm (original head of nazi storm troopers), hadrian, Frederick Von Steuben (who trained our troops at valley forge), John Laurens who was the son of the President of the Continental Congress that year, Henry Laurens. Laurens later died in battle, becoming one of America's first Gay heroes, and thousands upon thousands more that were famous and some never heard of that fought and died for their countries serving their militaries. I think you need to face your own homophobic fears instead of fearing what others do in their private lives. Some of the toughest and most reliable people I have ever met happen to be gay. sexual orientation does not have anything to do with courage or reliability.

I don't support the repeal of DODT but the Army allows LOTS of things I don't approve of or participate in. I'm not going to get all worked up about one more thing that I can't control or pick just one thing to act like it's the end of the world over.

I have been stationed with MANY gays in my 20 years in the USN. Some we knew about and some we didn't. One thing I DO know is that the gays that I knew(men AND women) were the top performers in their rating.
I knew an E-6 Marine who was 'penciled in' for orders to the Commandant of the Marine Corps, high marks all around, highly respected by her juniors AND seniors alike. Long story how she was
found out (she dated guys, too), but within 3 weeks of being found out, she was OUT. She didn't "look gay". In fact, one of 'my guys' wanted me to fix him up with her since he knew she was a friend of mine.
Someone really screwed up on that one!
Ever do research on the great military leaders who WERE gay? Try starting with ALEXANDER THE GREAT.
(USN retired 1965 - 85)

I haven't really picked a side. But there is one thing I have a problem with. All the advocates saying they want gays in the military, the gay community saying they should have the right. But, I haven't heard a gay or lesbian say they want to join. All te marches for the rights but no one standing up saying I want to join.

I think people are forgetting the mindset of the military. For so long it's been only open to white males, now they let in other races and finally they let females in. They treat everyone the same and those groups have accepted it. Gays (most but not all) would cry discrimination at BCTor bootcamp when the Drill Sargent gives them a nickname.

I think gays should be able to join when 80% of the non-military community accepts the GLBT community. Also, when there are laws giving them rights. The military shouldn't be the first thing change, it should be last.

I think the military should go back to its original policy: Ask and tell. If a person admitted to homosexual behavior, they couldn't enlist. If they were caught engaged in homosexual behavior, they were booted out. IMAO, period.
