I have a 1 year contract on Verizon DSL without home phone line. My contract ends in 1st september, 2010. I am moving this month somewhere else. the new location is just 1 street away.
MY question is: Can I pay off the bill for the remaining months now and have the service cancelled. It is $20 per month, so I will pay $60 for the remaining three months and have the service cancelled now. Is it possible? I want it to be cancelled after I pay off because If someone moves to my current location where I am right now, he or she will not be able to use my service. That is why I want to cancel right after I move.
Is it possible to pay for the remaining months now and cancel the service?
Any suggestions is appreciated.
Thank You.

Yep. Just call up Verizon and tell them you want to cancel your service as of a particular date. They will send you a final bill for the lower of the cancellation fee or the regular fee for the number of months left on your contract. You should be able to (and it's probably a good idea to) confirm that fee when you cancel.
