Ford escape vs. a jeep liberty?

im going to b trying to get my first car soon. i really like the ford escapes and the jeep liberty. its going to be used so the years probably going to be around 2002-2005.
im just looking for a driving car for here to there that wont get stuff in snow or hydroplane since i live in michigan. and response needs to be good, along with spacious room in the front.what wuld be better?

My dad has a 2005 Ford Escape. It hasn't had any problems since he bought it and it is spacious inside. One of my friends has a 2003 Jeep Liberty. While I love the look of it, I find it to be very small and cramped. The Escape would be the smarter choice of the two. Even though I like the look of the Jeep more, it wouldn't be my first choice.
