Francisco Liriano of the Minnesota Twins has thrown the first no-hitter of the 2011 Major League Baseball season. The native of the Dominican Republic blanked the Chicago White Sox by a final score of 1-0. The improved Francisco Liriano to 2-4. It was also the first no-hitter of Francisco Liriano’s career.
The Twins scored their only run in the fourth inning when Jason Kubel smashed a solo home run. Other than that longball, it was a pitcher’s duel between Francisco Liriano and Edwin Jackson. In eight innings, Jackson gave up only six hits.
Entering the game, Francisco Liriano was one of the worst pitchers in all of baseball. He had a 9.13 ERA and had given up seven earned runs in two out of his last three starts. In his previous start, he gave up seven earned runs in only three innings.
Following Francisco Liriano’s no-hitter, his ERA dropped to 6.61.
