This means that any new apps downloaded on any device that is using the same apple ID that is signed on on your iPad and iPhone will be downloaded on all devices using that apple ID. You simply need to turn it off. To do this go to Settings> iTunes & App Stores> then look under Automatic Downloads, and switch the switches next to "Music" and "Apps" to "off".Now only things you download directly on those devices will be downloaded to those devices.
