Ok...so I am in desperate need of help. Im in a gender psychology class that deals with talking about traditional and modern concepts of masculinity and feminity. My professor claims to be "good friends with Oliver Stone"...as a result of this he assigned us different scenes from his movies and we have to explain in a one page essay how the scene in detail displays different concepts of masculinity, feminity...etc. I got assigned a 30 second scene from any given sunday which is this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZI0afHx6kzc apparently this scene is supposed to be symbolic of male instinct or atheleticism vs. females I personally don't understand it at all...to me its just a guy getting tackled and other guys piling up on him with cut scenes of cheerleaders in between. But apparently according to my professor...im missing the big picture...which is the fact that it keeps cutting back to cheerleaders then the pile....and the tone of music is supposed to represent something as well..and the fact that its a dogpile...I don't understand any of it...maybe because I don't understand football. Why do the guys jump on the pile after someone has been tackled...i thought that only happend when someone dropped the ball and what do the cheerleaders have to do with anything?..I've watch the whole film for additional insight..but still nothing...all I kno is this is the only scene that involves cutting back to cheerleaders and then the players..and the fact that stone chose the pile on scene to do this "cut to cheerleaders thinh" is supposed to be coveying some sort of message about the psychology and physicality of football....however Im a girl...and I just want this paper done!...soo I figured ppl who kno alot about football or has played would perhaps have some sort of idea.
