equivalent of a video cassette tape ? I know game consoles can easily generate up to 720p and DVD up to 480p. Although Video Cassette Tapes are outdated and never measured by in terms of p but if the tape were to put to a test, approximately what would be the p value be ?

P is short for progressive lines. Of which VHS has 0. But if you're talking resolution which you almost do from your examples I'd say it lies around 240.

Europe uses PAL, not NTSC so there the DVD has 576 and VHS 288. Not p for VHS but i, for interlaced is probably as close I can get to an explanation. Since it's interlaced half the value would probably be true if they had to make progressive.

So VHS=120 in the US.
