Some big little things could be coming out of the Sony San Diego development studios in the near future, as the core team's focus shifts from creating epic PS2 and PS3 games to making smaller games for the PlayStation Network. Speaking with Gamasutra during a recent studio tour, SCEA producer Jim Molinets explains.
"Internally, we have shifted our focus from doing large-scope PS2 and PS3 titles to doing PSN titles exclusively. We've got three smaller groups now, and they're all doing very differentiated products with different requirements."
While this comment refers only to a small segment of the development studios, it does serve to emphasize Sony's commitment to the PSN. I'd daresay that when it comes to first-party downloadable games Sony is definitely going to come out on top, as Microsoft is focused on their large titles and community features, content on letting third parties populate Live Arcade while Nintendo remains fixated with giving us as many old games as possible. With so many titles going multiplatform and original retail games few and far between at the moment, this is where Sony really has a chance to outshine the competition. Shine on little PS3.
