Gossip girl prequel ?

should i read the prequel before actually reading the first book in the series?

i actually got introduced to the gossip girl series by reading the prequel first,

so i think that i was informed about what happened and reading the prequel before reading the others is a better idea because after reading all of the series and then the prequel, well i think u would have no idea about how they are connecting the prequel to the other books
