I "get' the status thing- I know people put 'I like it on the table/ bed / chair," whatever, but HOW does it actually raise awareness for breast cancer?

Oh, maybe it's just here in Australia- everyone (or seems like everyone)is putting a status,eg"I like it on the Table"- or "I like it on the chair"- and it's supposed to mean, where you put your handbag? I just got a message from someone to say, don't forget to put your status about the "handbag" thing- it's to raise awareness for breast cancer?
As I said- I don't get HOW it raises awareness for breast cancer?
