I found out today that my darling daughter is pregnant! She is in a long-term, loving relationship & they are planning to get married. I am a young 45 year old woman. Ride my own bike, even. My question is for the younger grandparents out there: Were you REALLY stunned to realize you're going to be a Grandma/Grandpa? She is 25, and as an intelligent woman I realize she's old enough to start a family & will make a wonderful wife & mom, but what would suggest to me to get over feeling "old"!? Am I justified with mourning the loss of the last shred of my youth? Should I just suck it up & learn how to bake cookies? I guess I am looking for encouragement so I can be a great Gram, too.

Honey, get over it already. Do you still have a monthly cycle? If so, you are still carrying your own eggs. So whose old? You have'nt lost your youth any way, no matter what. Right now it is just buried beneath your emotions. Just wait until you are running and playing with the grandchild.....

just be yourself and be there for your daughter and her family, be involved in the little things, I wish I had my mom to be a gram for my kids. and my mother-inlaw was never much of a gram and my kids to this day and are grown reallay don't know the women. my mom passed away before my kids.

As a grandfather of three, soon to be four and just turned 50 in November know that the best years of life are ahead of you hot granny. My grandsons are the light of my life and i feel energized when they are around. They're so funny and it helps me remember what it was like to be young.
I'm also seeing a woman 12 yrs my junior and i chalk that up to the energy boost.
