I've had 2 sets of braces, one for about 3 1/2 years due to crowding, the second set has been on for almost 3 years now and I get them off next week. It was either that or removing teeth, and I had horrible crowding as a child (thank god they're straight now).
My first set of braces I took care of my teeth very diligently, and after all of the pain and hell that i went through from that, I decided it'd be a great idea to just brush my teeth once every few days or week. My gums were inflammed before I got them back on, due to going "one day wont hurt not brushing, two days, three, etc."
A few months ago I started diligently taking care of my teeth again, floss, brush, ACT mouthwash, dental picks to scrape off plaque, you name it. I noticed my lower gum receding, and it alarmed me and worried me to death. I have 3mm of recession on my lower gum line, and decalcification. The dentist said it's not bad at all, and I wont come out of braces with white squares. I have flourosis from over using flouride as a baby. So yes, I do have natural white spots but they are only stains and have been there my entire life. I do not have any sort of periodontal disease or gingivitis, I visit the dentist every 3 months to get flouride treatments and cleanings. No cavities, no "terrible" recession. I'm just so worried about that one receded spot. I don't want to want to get a gum graft, I will if it gets to where I can see my root because personally I think it's disgusting. I feel like I have a mouth of horrors or something and everyone's saying my teeth look fine. Pleaaaaaase help? I'd just like some reassurance. I was with flouride rinse and use sensodyne, and I've never really drank sodas or diet sodas because I am a type 1 diabetic. Will it recede anymore if im taking really, really good care of my teeth? Are my teeth just going to rot out of my head? Can they fix this decalcification? Are gum grafts painful, if I have to have one? What's causing/caused the recession? (i hate blood. i've never had surgery or anything. just, not thanks)
