Hamster gone for 2 weeks, now what?

My daughters hamster has been gone 2 weeks wednesday, he went into a hole under the bathtub. (it doesn't lead to anywhere,just under the bathtub) anyway, we have seen signs of him, little droppings on the floor, when we put food out its gone, but we havent seen any for about 4 days, do you think he is dead, or should we keep trying?
