Here's an idea, what if China Lake Pump Action Grenade Launcher has a barrel and other stuffs made with tungsten carbide or titanium alloy rather than aluminium. and then a variant of XM576 grenade that has no sabot and disintegrating upper case to contain more pellets and powder.
a XM576 has no sabot and contains 27 #4 pellets hat is 6mm diameter. the over all length is 67.2mm and the projectile takes up half of the overall length so it.s 33.6. if the disintegrating case extends the round to a standard length of 98.8mm which is common 40x46mm HE.
98.8 - 33.6 = 65.2 mm for the wad.
65.2 / 33.6 = 1.94047619 is the factor or percent of increase in pellets
1.940476 * 27 = 52.39285713 is the real value of pellets if #4 Buckshot
52.39285713 * 6mm (size of #4 Buck) = 314.3571428 is the value of total diameter that it can hold pertaining to the pellets
314.3571428 / 8.4mm (00 Pellets) = 37.42346938 or 36-37 00-buckshot pellets it can contain instead of #4 Buck.
leaving the other space for powder, it would have more if it only contains 32 - 36.
having the Grenade launcher with even more weight and barrel strength can allow it to accommodate such round. the lack of sabot would allow bigger spread.
the question is, leaving the complications of how to produce it or use it, rather if it already exists:
-Would it be devastating?
-can a human accommodate such weapon?
-would it be effective to giant zombies if they ever existed
-if zombies fear something, would they fear this?
-would it be practical to use?
-what is it's pros and cons
