have my betta fish mated with each other and is that a bubble nest on top of my tank?

i had a male blue betta fish for 1 year, at least, then i bought another one but accidentally, i bought another male! in a few days, being in the same tank it got torn fins ( the new one) so i separated them. i really wanted to breed bettas so i bought a female (this time it was right) and with research i started doing everything right, like feeding them meaty foods as blood worms. and yesterday i saw a some very dull white stripes on the female ( ive been told that thats a sign of breeding.) so i turned the filter off. and now i see like only 10-20 bubbles at the top of the tank. should i keep it off? just to note that the male, didn't chase the female as it was the opposite way around. i guess that its because it has been attacked before and feels strength less. have they even mated with each other?
