Have you ever completely changed which genre you were reading?

Has it happened to you that you had been reading just one type of book exclusively, and somehow you began a new addiction to an entirely different genre?

I seem to have gone from nonfiction religious books to science fiction/horror books, beginning with a new Stephen King book I had decided to read. God help me, I am now a horror fan, although of the spooky kind, not the slasher variety.

If this happened to you, what motivated the change?

I went from funny, light literary fiction (like Sarah Dessen) and then did a complete switch and started reading dark, dystopian, post-apocalyptic books.

I made the switch in November, because of NaNoWriMo. I got an idea for my own dystopian novel, inspired by a line in a Breaking Benjamin song, so I just started reading in the genre I was writing.

I actually don't usually stick to one genre. In the past few days, I've read a book about superheroes, a book about zombies, and another one about two guys named Will Grayson.

I guess the constant switch of genres keeps me entertained. :)
