When I start my car my radio clock resets its self to twelve o'clock also when I m driving all of a sudden my dials, radio, message board on dash and all lights start flickering. Then the car totally dies. I pop the hood and mess with the battery cables then try to start it and it does. My battery dial shows at half and starts to move back and forth. I had some corrosion on the positive cable but I cleaned it. Does any one know what is going on? Is it my alternator or my computer? I don't know? HELP!!!

Check the wiring that is going to the starter.

My GM car had a corroded fusible link located on one of the positive leads going to the starter. It took me a while to find it, but the repair itself was cheap. A fusible link costs about a dollar.

A fusible link is like an in-line fuse in the wiring.

If you replace a fusible link, make sure you replace it with one that is the same amperage rating. The wiring in this area is located in a very harsh environment. Solder your connections. I also shrink wrapped the connections to make them water tight.

You will need to remove the starter to access these wires.
