just moved into a dorm room at ole miss university. ethernet hook up should work just fine. my old roomate, in my last house, reformatted my hard drive like a year ago, and reinstalled windows xp. i went for about a year without an internet connection. now when i hooked in my cat 5 to the ethernet hook up in the room and try to connect to the internet, by opening internet explorer, that white microsoft page comes up talking about search page cannot be found, request cannot whatever. so then i try to set up a new connection under network and internet connections and i go through the little wizard, i choose connect to internet to browse and read e-mail. then i choose broadband connection that is always on/does not require password. then it says this connection should already be set up, yet under network connections i have no icon for a connection? and like i said internet explorer just takes me to that white page that says cannot perform request or whatever. (by the way i've tried pretty much all combinations of connection options on the wizard to see if it works including password protected connection and all that, none work.) so also at the end of the wizard on the page that says the highspeed internet connection should already be configured theres a little link that says if the highspeed lan/broadband network connection doesn't work then click this follow link "broadband connections". then it says something about can't do something because of network drivers. can somebody please tell me what i should do, i have a little 4 gig stick, can i just download some xp network drivers on to that from a friends computer and put 'em on my computer and then it will work? please help, i'm desperate. gotta have this internet hooked up! thanks
