Healthier eating tips?

I'm not going on a full-fledged diet. I do need to lose a few pounds, but I love food, so I'm not depriving myself! I will just exercise more!
Anyway...so I'm looking for some tips on eating a little better. A few common sense ones I've come up with are: mustard instead of mayo, plenty of water, less carbs, snack healthy, don't eat late at night...
Any other suggestions? Thanks!
Oh, and if you can suggest any "light" or low-fat foods that taste GOOD. For example, I cannot stand light ranch dressing...but low-fat sour cream isn't bad (not that I use it much, anyway).
Light peanut butter is pretty good, too...but I don't eat much of that either! lol
Okay...I don't need any "product pushing" here, thank you. It just makes me completely go against ever trying the product. So stop it.
