Help for Repetitive Motion Arm/Elbow/Shoulder Injury, what's best for it?

Hi:

My husband is a healty 46 year old AUTO MECHANIC. Over the past year, his right arm is really giving him a lot of pain from work.

It is a bad pain in his elbow area, that radiates up to his shoulder. He cannot pinpoint an exact time when he hurt it or anything, it was just from turning wrenches, sanding, etc.

We don't have health insurance or much money (like most people in the usa right now). My question is what kinds of things should he do to help it?

I did get him an elbow wrap at the drug store. Should he put it in a sling an immobilize it for a while? or should he doe the opposite and start lifting some light weights and exercising it? Would heat or ice be better?

Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!
