I have a 6 Month old Female Kitty and a 8 week old Male Kitty.
We got Mouse (female) about 7 Weeks ago and Gizmo (male) a week and half ago. We kept them seperate for a 2-3 days (advised by vet) and then allowed them to meet (we also did the whole mixing scent thing with towels and kitty brushes).
At first Mouse was scared of him, He would bounce towards her playfully and she would hiss and run away but then 2 mins later she returned.
As days went by and visit's got longer she started to sniff him, She would still hiss at him but wouldnt run away, she would occasionally paw him. and very oddly she would lay on her back playfully but if he came close she would hiss and paw him whil still on her back. (Vet said it could be shes confused as her hormones are still develoing) She then became obbsesive with her toys and even claimed his off him, we decided to sit and play with them both at the same time swapping the toys between them. (she was happy to do this, but will not play with him without us)
Shes happy to eat, Go toilet and play while he is out in the room, but if he goes near her she hiss's and slaps him. (this happens even if she's just laying down)
(He has now started hissing and hitting back, but he thinks it's play, He now hisses at his toys too.. its quite funny to watch)
I was told Feliway defuser was the answer. Well I got that today ive plugged it in to the wall. How long should i now wait for the next visit?
Any ideas how else to stop her hissing and hitting him? (are we meant to tell her off? I read it was bad to do this, i dunno)
Any ideas on how to get them to become friends?
We really want to just be able to have them both free around the home and not have to worry about fighting.
I forgot to add the fact she will sniff him (his face) but refuse's to allow him to sniff her back. is this good or bad? she will sniff him walk away if he tries to sniff her she paws him.
She has also started to dive towards him (sometimes she hisses and paws him, sometimes she dives towards him and then walks away) he thinks its all play.
We allowed the two together all day today, everything seemed to be getting better, when the kitten was playing on his back with a toy. Mouse dived at him hissing and started biting his neck... What do i do?
