I'm at my wits end. My daughter just turned 3 and will not listen to me and constantly whines all day long every 5 minutes it seems. I can't even leave the living room and she starts crying because I left to go into the kitchen. I don't know what to do and how to make her listen and stop the whining. I yell and it just makes things worse.

When she whines, tell her you can't understand her and then ignore her. Make sure she knows she's missing out on doing fun things because she whines and you can't understand. If there's another child, you can say things like, "Too bad X whines so much because she would probably really like to play this board game with us. Unfortunately, we can't understand her so we don't know if she actually wants to play or not." Separation anxiety when you leave the room at age 3 is a bit odd. Has there been a major change? Is she starting preschool or ending preschool? Is there a new baby on the way? Did you move? Has there been a lot of parental arguing? Anything can set her off. Ignore the whining and tell her she needs to speak in a normal voice.
