Help! My computer will not work with P2P to get mp3's. Please see details...?

I recently had to erase everything on my hard drive because of a virus. I have windows xp home edition. I downloaded limewire (what i used before) and it would only connect with one bar and would not return any search results. Same thing happened when i tryed Frostwire. When i downloaded Bearshare, it would let me search, but not download any music. I know i am behind a firewall (probably threw XP) but im not sure if im using a wrong port or what. PLEASE HELP!! I dont want to go changing things around, or turning off the firewall all together and end up with another virus. Thanks!!
I have AVG and AVG Spyware protection.

first of all, make sure you have a good anti-virus. i would at least get AVG. It's an anti-virus program. also make sure your your windows firewall is on. i use limewire sometimes. i have no trouble with viruses since i use an antivirus and a firewall.

Are you using an anti-virus. If not you really need to get one. You can't be without one. I suggest AVG of Avast. Both of these are free programs. Also make sure you have at least two spyware programs such as Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware both also free. You do not need to turn your firewall to get these programs to work. They do need to be added to the firewalls list of exceptions however. To do this go to the control panel, then to security, go to the Windows Firewall icon and add check whatever program you're using for P2P to the exceptions list. If you're using a router check out http://portforward.com for help with forwarding ports.

the limewire one used to happen to me to
try going to file at the top when your in limewire
and click connect it worked for me :]

lol limewire sucks... use torrents.. try wyzo or something, and make sure you scan everything you download to prevent getting viruses, as well as keep your computer up to date =p ...limewire can be okay for downloading some videos like south park episodes, but torrents are the best for music. =p i got probably 90% of my music from torrents ( about 6,000 songs =])
