help with hair??? hair styling wax??

i feel like such a girl asking these questions. im a guy and i have long hair, its not that long though just barely reaching my shoulders. i honestly dont care about looks but ive had this hair for 2 years and its just starting to bother me, like i wish it would just stay in one place, but gel is retarded, its all sticky and it hardens too much. so i heard there is hair styling wax.. which i know nothing about and have never seen someone use it, but apparently a lot of people do. would it help? please be specific on what it does, would it help keep the little ends of my hair straight also?
