Holiday cancellation or change of hotel?

My mate anjd her fella booked a holiday and have paid £200 so far, its two weeks in tenerife sc for £600 which i think is a bit steep even for july?? But they have now split up and arent sure as to what to do, i said i would love to go instead but i cant afford £600 is there anyway we can change to a cheaper hotel usuiong the deposit already paid?? what will the charges if any be like?? thanks
 
Now you know why you should never buy a package holiday. If you'd booked the flight direct with the airline, there's just be an adjustment fee for changing the name of a passenger. If you'd booked direct with the hotel and cancelled this far in advance, there'd be no cancellation fee.

A lot depends what name the holiday is booked in. If your mate's ex booked it, it's now his problem. If your mate booked it, she should start by asking the travel agent. Make the agent earn his big fat commission.
