Ridiculous tbh. Yes a cat in the world is going to have its risks but they are made to survive out there. Its like saying we shouldn't leave the house incase we get hit by a car or attacked by a dog. I'd like to see any of you escape like a cat would. Lets face it!
I couldn't keep my cat inside he always sits at the window and he'll even climb the blinds to get out. As long as he has a way back in he knows he can run to if he gets into danger i'm satisfied my cats reasonably safe. I first let him out at 6months into the garden and slow and sure he learned to climb and jump enough to explore further. I would say though make sure they can jump to and from a high place and climb before you let them wonder. Many times I found myself opening the gate between my garden and my neighbors because he couldn't climb straight up the fence just yet. On my side he used the bins to get over. So let them out supervised at first. Even if your just in ear shot incase they find themselves stuck. All cats must learn. First time my cat got onto the roof of the lady backing onto me's shed he sat there meowing looking at me, who of corse couldn't reach him, and all he needed was me to call him and wave to help him down. I realised I didn't need to watch him anymore when I found him outside once meowing at my back door when i'd left him inside. Turned out, he'd learned to open the door at the bottom of my stairs, come up, mount the shower curtain and climb up to the small window, jump onto my shed roof and into the back garden of the chip shop, where he'd spend hours a day before coming home for dinner when I rattled his biscuits at the back door x
