...cigarette or alcohol taxes? Has a tax hike on cigarette or alcohol cause somebody to just move to another state where its cheaper even though they know nothing about the state. They just moved simply because they want that stuff at a better price? I know theres lots of reasons for people to move, but has a tax hike on cigarette or alcohol alone caused anyone to move out of the state they live in?
has this ever happened before?

Lot's of people just drive to the next state on weekends to save money. You should see the hoards that come from Canada to shop here for everything from cigs to the kitchen sink.

I was surprised to learn that places on the east coast and west coast have cigarettes as high as $5.00 a pack (not that I'm a smoker). Our gas in Missouri averages around 1.69 a gallon, our cigarettes go for $20 a carton for Pall Malls (my grandbaby's dad smokes 'em) or around $2 a pack. I also bought an eight-room house in 2007 for $38,000, with house payments that include my annual insurance and property taxes at $322 a month. We have several college towns where a furnished apartment can be had for as low as $200 a month, sometimes including the utilities, although you can also rent houses for anywhere from $300 on up to $1000 a month. My average electric bill if not using a/c is around $48-52 a month.

I've tried living on the east coast, but they price things way too high for my taste. I just keep coming on home to my beloved Missouri.

Don't know but for sure lots of people have bootlegged cigs and booze INTO the states with high taxes.

No. That would not make me move. Moving is pretty expensive. It would take you a long time to recoup your moving expenses.

Love high cig prices tax some more an we can run them up from the Carolina's an make some cash.It would never make me move but high property an other taxes may.

I am considering leaving California due to the high taxes (property taxes, 10% sales tax, gasoline tax, income tax, car registration fees, etc. High alcohol and cigarette taxes are generally an indication that the rest of the taxes are high as well.
