How can I delete my old files without deleting the files that are in my laptop now?

I re-installed Windows Vista because my laptop was really slow. Then, I found my old files on "My Computer" that I don't need now and they take a HUGE amount of space. How can I delete the old files without the files that are in my laptop now?
