Get a kong and fill it will kibble, peanut butter (small amounts), or anything else that is appropriate to keep them occupied. Maybe leaving the tv or radio on so that they can hear voices and not feel alone. You could also do some training by getting some nummy treats and stepping out your door for a few seconds and coming back in. Do this again and again will increasing your time. If your dog barks/whines shorten your time and only treat when the dog is quiet. Do not muzzel your dog when you are not at home. It is dangerous. Hitting your dog isnt going to help. Its going to show them that bad things happen when you leave not that bad things happen when I cry.
