How can I get my notifications to how they used to be on my itouch?

I have a 32G, 3rd Generation iTouch and when I got it the app for AIM was working fine, letting me know when I had a new IM and whatnot..now I have issues with it, when I click on the app and open it, it refreshes and gives me all of my IM's at the same time, some hours old to a few minutes ago. If anyone can help me out and tell me what settings I should have on it to get the IM notifications, that'll be great!! <3
