I used to be a real workhorse. I worked 50-60 hours a week and made really good money. But I got laid off in 2006 and couldn't find work. I had to collect unemployment for a while. I went back to college and was doing really good, like straight A's, then I got divorced. I couldn't concentrate in school so I dropped out. Ever since then I can't seem to do anything. I've been dropped out of school for a year now and haven't worked. I've applied to a lot of places and generally don't get calls back. I got hired for $6/hr to cook food and quit because I kept burning myself and couldn't deal with the heat from the ovens. I got hired for $8/hr to do concrete work and quit because I was the only white dude and couldn't communicate with my coworkers. They were always telling me what to do in Spanish and I don't speak Spanish and made a lot of mistakes. Those are the only two places that hired me. Now I am on assistance and am almost scared to just leave my own room. I am miserable and want to get on my feet, but the idea of rejection or finding another dead end job just messes with my head. Any advice? I need to get going in life, it is passing me by and I am becoming a recluse.
