How can I help my friend with gossip?

Today I swore to my friend Jess, that I wouldn't slander, gossip, talk trash ect..., and I promised on it because I have a bit of a problem with it. Anyways, later on today, my other friend started to gossip about this girl. Don't get me wrong-she's really cool, and has an awesome personality, but I don't feel comfortable when she talks about her "friend" because she expects me to respond since I did before. I mean, I told her I promised not to gossip, but then shes like "Uh huh...yeah, whatever I don't care..." but then does it again!

What can I do?

First off, I'm so happy to hear that you're giving up gossiping. It's really a great move.

But anyway, personally, I would walk away, show her that you're serious. Tell her how much this means to you, and even if you can't get her to stop trash talking to everyone, at least let her know that you won't stand for it while you're around. If she's a real friend, she will understand that this is important to you, and she should respect you for it, I sure do.

Put your foot down, or she might never stop. Good luck!
