How can I keep facebook notes from appearing in my news feed?

I mean, I know the point of writing them is for people to see them, but I don't think everyone from my grandmother to my boyfriend's little sister needs to have it in THEIR newsfeed.. If I want someone to specifically read it, they will be tagged.

Is there any way to avoid that? I know there used to be a choice, but with the new facebook, I don't see an option...
