How can I speed up my bit torrent?

I've been using torrents for awhile but recently my downloads have been going about 3 kb/s to 30 kb/s and it takes forever. I've pretty much ruled out it being a problem with my fire wall and yet some downloads will still average over 300 kb/s though that's about 1 out of every 5 downloads. Any help?

you can go on youtube search for speeding up or you can download vuze which is faster than bit torrent. also u can download utorrent which might be faster but now it has changed and its now not so good
