How can i teach my dog a new trick?

I have a rhodesian ridgeback that just turned 7 on june 9th... 2 weeks ago my brother and i taught him the command "Drop It" which means when he has something he doesnt need to have, by the command "drop it" he will, well, drop it... my dad wants me to teach him how to shake... but ive been trying that for a while... how do i do that? AND what other tricks should i teach him? hes not to old for a new trick i can tell you that! :)

do the command with your hand and then do it yourself, keep at it and the dog will get the idea
