How can I tell if someone rejected my friend request on Facebook?

I added someone about a week ago and they hadn't been online until yesterday (I know they were on because they changed their profile picture and I can see their wall) and they're still not on my friends list. On their page, it still says 'Friend request pending'. Does this mean they just haven't answered it or have they rejected me?
