Jesus could have denied and ended it there but He didn't. Remember in the Old Testament that sacrifice has always been required for redemption of sins. Even when Abraham was asked to sacrifice Isaac God was giving us a picture of our salvation. When Jesus hung on that cross, He BECAME sin. Everyone's sin. He became greed, lust, murder, rape, etc. He took all of the punishment for all of us. We could not save ourselves. The only way to every reach atonement for sins has been a blood sacrifice. But, before Christ, those sacrifices had to keep being repeated because people kept sinning. Jesus, the perfect, spotless, sinless Lamb of God, He was the only sacrifice great enough to cover all sins for all time. He was God Himself, dying for us. How could it not save the world?</blockquote>
