How do HID's work????????????

I want to put HIDS on my 1993 integra but i dont think i want to pay someone to do it..is it easy? i notice a little box that comes in the package. does that box go in the middle of the connection from the original wires to the light bulb? like

WIRES - LIGHT BULB
but with HID kit it now goes
WIRES into HID box HID box to Bulb?

basicaly..how do u install hid kit?
