How do I bypass a internet restrictions without using a proxy?

There is a guy in my class that knows how to do it. He used to use a proxy but now he doesn't have to. He can just go to any website he wants to without any trouble. He's kind of a loner so he won't tell anybody. Please help.

He probably changed the proxy settings of the web browser being used to a proxy of the company providing internet to the school, which would bypass the schools proxy server.
