how do I check for clogs in the vent for my kitchen sink?

My double basin kitchen sink drains very well when the garbage disposal is running. However when you turn of the GD and let the water run on for a few seconds the disposal does not completely drain. It's not so bad that it backs up, but there is definately standing water in the disposal unit. If I flip the disposal for just a second or two it drains completely.
I'm a bit stymied as I'm pretty sure that I installed it all correctly. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks

If you had a clogged vent it would cause the water in the trap to be vacuum out and cause the sewer gas to come up through piping. I don't feel you have a vent problem. I believe you have a clog as the disposal is acting like a pump when on an forcing water down drain. Hope this helps.

check and see if your cross over tube is level or even a little bit slanted towards the side with p trap down hill ofcourse , also where the cross over tube meets the other side of the sink by the p trap the t connector has a divider inside the t at that point, take it off there and check for a clog. your vent is best checked from the roof running a snake down it, the old cast pipe needs snaked when it starts going bad especialy if it has been vacant for a while
